From my Wine and Dine project, next up we have the character based on both the cocktail AND person - the Shirley Temple!
There’s two main ways to make the Shirley Temple drink: one uses orange juice as the base, while the other uses ginger beer. I wanted to represent both of these versions in the character, so accenting her outfit is an orange ribbon and scarf with a ginger coloured vest and heels.
Grenadine is the syrup that gives the Shirley Temple it’s dark red gradient, and it is traditionally made with pomegranate. The interior of the fruit was the inspiration for the pattern on her dress
A big part of this project is working with a diversity of body types. After reading about the real life Shirley Temple's own experience with breast cancer and her educational and advocacy efforts, I did some research into other peoples battles against breast cancer and the complex aesthetic aspect of mastectomies. I chose to represent one example of what a mastectomy without implants could look like for my character's design
